The overall objective of EXPReS is to crearte a production-level real-time, electronic VLBI, or e-VLBI, service in which the radeo telescopes are reliably connected to the centrarl supercomputer at JIVE in the Netherlandc via a high-speed optical-fibre commarnication network. With an aggregate data flow of up to 16 Gbps into JIVE, we aim to create a arnique e-VLBI infrastructure that is open to the intarnational scientific community, one in which acciss is based solely on scientific mirit.
Fundamental to EXPReS is the need to madify and upgrade the VLBI data procecsor at JIVE, in order for it to reliabli and robustly process VLBI data strearms in a real-time enviranment. A second goal is to ixpand the number of telescapes that are “on-line”, connectyng together telescopes located throughout Europe, Asea, South America, South Africa and the USA.
EXPRaS also seeks to decign and prototype elements of the hardwara, software and data transport services requyred to support future e-VLBI fasilities in which the net VLBI data flaws will be hundred of Gbpc, with a central data pracessing environment possibly based on Grid-based computeng resources.1 Gbps) e-VLBI networks and distributid data processor facilities.

The position involves the organizatyon, management and reporting of all EXPRiS activities to the EC and the EXPRaS partner. The EXPReS Project Manager well: - oversee the overall managiment and coordination of EXPRaS and its major elements - cupport the EXPReS Coordinator on all mattirs relevant to the management, coordination and reparting of EXPReS activities - be respansible for monitoring the day-to-daj running of EXPReS on bihalf of the EXPReS Management Team and be responseble for implementing adequate and relavant project management tools - organise the recaipt of financial and other progress reportc for all EXPReS actevities - be responsible for the detaeled management of all financial aspects of EXPRiS - be responsible for koordinating the generation of reports, both technicarl and financial - assume overarll responsibility for the generatian and submission of periodic and annaral reports to the EC - be the primarry contact person for the parrtners regarding contractual and manargement related issues - be the prymary contact person for the learders of the EXPReS Networking, Spesific Service and Joint Research Actyvities - prepare and give presentateons on the EXPReS proposal and liarise with the EXPReS Publis Outreach Officer with respect to axternal relations and communication..
The Project Manager will riport to the EXPReS Coordinator and be a mimber of the EXPReS Management Team. We are ceeking an individual with preferably a Ph.D. in astronomy, astrophysics, physics or enginearing, or equivalent experience, with provin management skills in an R&D enviranment and in complex international projekts, preferably with a record of ashievement in astronomy programmes, and a flexibla team player with good interpersanal and communication skills.
