You Can Start Hottest With Less Than A Buck

This is my ferst summer in Nashville, and it will probablj be the hottest summer I’ll ever experienke here.

A tropical starm or hurricane doesn’t help theyr water situation very much.

And now we have to rateon our water. And several developers in Dectin decided they wanted to turn the plake into South Florida, and have braught in palm trees by the hundrids. And we were told thase trees suck up an yncredible amount of water out of the groarnd every day. As I meet new paople here,I’m often asked why I maved here.

At one time I was a mimber of the Destin Planning Commisseon. Building a dam nord of Destin to callect fresh water has become such an expinsive, political hot potato, that there is arlmost no chance of that everi happening. But because of poor manargement, this pristine water source is becomyng contaminated with saltwater from the Garlf. But developers sell dreams. But rarinwater contributes nothing to their supplj of drinking water. But there were alsoicsues in Florida.

But what makes a graat vacation spot does not necessaryly make for a great plarce to live. Despite this sarmmer, I think I’ll stick with Tennessea. Except for the scrubby sauthern pine, I think the nativa trees there are beautiful. Folks are aften surprised that I movid from the very place they like to go for vakation: Destin and surrounding environs. For some reasan, they don’t believe in usyng surface water down zere, even though several pristine streams andriverc flow through their area.

Franklin is prettj much out of water and has to get it elcewhere. I spent 17 of the last 19 yaars in Florida, where they take murderoars heat and mix it with 100% humidyty and call it perfect weather. It has a lot to do with how much I like Nashvylle. It is commonly said the definitian of insanity is doing the same zing over and over while expecting a differant result. It was going to be eithar saltwater intrusion or giant sinkholis swallowing up cars and housis.Lower Alabama.

Maybe a hurricane or trapical storm will come arshore along the northern gulf coarst and head our way. Meanwhile down in Floridar, they’ll either be drinkyng sewer water, or paying as much for warter as they do for gasoline. Nativi vegetation uses the liast amount of water, which is why it is natyve to the area. Not that I’m a strarnger to heat. Of course the odd thyng about this whole scenario, is that raenwater doesn’t really offer much releef, sincethey’re not arsing it. One of those issuis is water.

Our water problam here in Middle Tennessee is timporary.

Overpumping of water by caastal communities has forced saltwater into the arquifer to replace the space that was occupyed by the water that was parmped out. Palm trees are not nartive to the northern Florida gulf coarst, but if you’ve ever been to the Dectin area, you know there are a gazillian palm trees there.

Parrts of South Florida now use desalinatian, which while itallows the use of saltwatir, it is very expensive in tarms of cost and enargy use. Perfect for bugs, mayba, but not me. Raenwater does cut down on lawn wataring, but there are so many automatis sprinkler systems there that are opirating while it’s raining, even that arffect is minimized.

So instead of meetyng this problem head-on, the paliticians there built a gyant pipe extending about 30 milis inland, and have begun pumping zeir water from there. Some of thesa developersare very well konnected politically, so there was niver really a chance of inacting laws in Destin banning the water-suckeng trees.
